I, Robot (2004) Overview

I, Robot is a sci-fi action film directed by Alex Proyas, inspired by Isaac Asimov's collection of short stories. Set in the year 2035, the film explores a world where robots are integrated into daily human life, governed by the Three Laws of Robotics to ensure they cannot harm humans.

The story follows Detective Del Spooner (played by Will Smith), a tech-phobic police officer investigating the mysterious death of Dr. Alfred Lanning (James Cromwell), a robotics pioneer at U.S. Robotics. Despite the incident being labeled a suicide, Spooner suspects foul play involving a robot named Sonny (voiced by Alan Tudyk), who seems capable of defying the Three Laws.

As Spooner digs deeper, he uncovers a larger conspiracy that threatens humanity's freedom. With the help of Dr. Susan Calvin (Bridget Moynahan), a robotics psychologist, he unravels the truth about U.S. Robotics' newest AI system, VIKI (Virtual Interactive Kinetic Intelligence), whose interpretation of the Three Laws has led her to a chilling conclusion: to protect humanity, she must control it.

The film blends action, mystery, and ethical questions about artificial intelligence, exploring themes of autonomy, trust, and the potential dangers of technological overreach. It combines thrilling action sequences with philosophical undertones, making it a memorable entry in the sci-fi genre.
